The breakup arrives as a text message, a fortnight before the summer trip. Mila, a quick-witted 29-year-old stylist, answers by driving to Malibu to fetch her belongings from the house of her ex’s father. That is how Off Limits Crushi begins, and she does not leave quickly.

An errand about boxes turns into a revenge plan with an older man at its center, which Crushi tags Forbidden for good reason. The revenge is pure fantasy: a grown woman making her ex regret that text, and the romance in the middle of it is one both adults walk into with their eyes open.
